Change

When I was hardly a teenager, watching Hannah Montana was the highlight of my day.
I recall being captivated by the hilarious jokes and I held on to every word Miley used to say.

A few days ago I decided to watch the shows last season,
And now as an adult I was taken aback by my logic and reason.
The show, the characters and the plot was the same as before,
But I did not find it captivating anymore.

I realized I was holding on to the memories I developed as a child,
So I allowed my expectations to run wild.
In retrospect it seems I was holding on to a tattered belief,
I forgot that as the seasons change so do the colors of every leaf.

You can not hold on to the memories of your past forever,
Because change is inevitable and when you realize that you will be a tad bit more clever.
You will finally understand that with the passage of time,
You will not find the same meaning in your old, favorite poems rhyme.

The same goes for friendships and relations that change and falter,
Because your desires constantly alter.

You must understand when people grow, they grow apart,
No matter how strong their roots were in the start.
This you must hold on to, my dear,
So you can welcome change without fear.

Never forget that you might not feel the same way tomorrow as you do today,
And that's just alright, that's perfectly okay.
