In Between The Raindrops - Prologue - Summer

Summer of secrets

"Everything will be fine." Anaya Iqbal spoke into her phone as she stood in front of her kitchen window, staring outside at the clear sky, praying for rain.

"How can you be so sure?" Her boyfriend, Aaiz Farid replied, not being able to mask the desperation behind his voice.

"I love you." Anaya Iqbal whispered through her soft, pink lips.

"Whatever." Came the instantaneous reply before the line went dead.

Anaya sighed as she untangled her phone from her unruly, golden brown locks.  He'll be fine, he's just going through a phase, she thought as she grabbed her simmering, hot cup of coffee and walked towards her room. When she made it to her doorway, she could hear the faint, muffled sounds of her parents arguing from down the hall.

"I cant live without you anymore!" Anaya heard her mother scream.

"And I cant live without you." Her father calmy replied.

Anaya couldnt help but snort at how her life had become a marathon of trying to convince herself and the people around her that everything was going to be fine even though every part of her body screamed at her, telling her to stop being so naive.

Shaking her head, Anaya walked in to her room, over to her laptop and logged in. She couldn't help but smile when her desktop displayed her favorite picture of her and Aaiz before his mother had died, before he was still the person she had fallen in love with. 

Anaya logged in to her Facebook account and saw Aaiz was online.

"Hey" She messaged him.

Anaya waited for him to reply but even long after the "Seen" message appeared, no reply came.

"Oh, you must be busy. I guess your phone must have died earlier during our call. Well, call me before you go to sleep. I love you." She messaged him again only to be dismayed when he didnt reply.

Sighing, Anaya began to scroll through her Facebook NewsFeed and stumbled across a status post Aaiz and his best friend Sadia Zia were currently commenting on.

"Hahahahaha, Aaizzzzzzz I love you, man. :')" Sadia had commented a minute ago.

"I love you too. :*" Was his reply.

Anaya rolled her eyes and closed her laptop shut. They're just best friends, she reminded herself. Just best friends.

Yawning, Anaya picked up her phone in one hand and her coffee in the other. She noticed she had received a new message on her KIK App.

AnonymousMe: Hey.

AnayaIq: Who are you?

AnonymousMe: bR0k3n aNgL3!!!!

AnayaIq: Lol. Funny. Now seriously, who are you?

AnonymousMe: y r u so serious 2day?

AnayaIq: Oh. Sorry. I don't mean to be, I'm just having a rough night.

AnonymousMe: Oh.

AnayaIq: That doesn't anymore my question. :P

AnonymousMe: i dnt want 2 burdn u ill tel u ltr den.

AnayaIq: Oh Lol. I don't get overburned that easily and besides, I'm very intrigued now. Tell me who you are?

AnonymousMe: i cnt tel u who I am bt der is sumthng i need 2 tel u.

AnayaIq: Yeah?

AnonymousMe: bt u hav to swear on ur father dat u vil not ask me who i am nd u vil keep my secret.

AnayaIq: ARE YOU CRAZY? I WOULD NEVER SWEAR ON MY FATHER.

AnonymousMe: pls dnt b angry. i need 2 knw i cn trst u nd dis seems like da only way. Pls.

Anaya stared at her phones screen wondering what she should do when finally her curiosity got the best of her.

AnayaIq: Fine. I swear. Now tell me.
