Between The Raindrops - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Saif reared the corner of the Library building where he had seen Anaya run off to thinking this was the most impulsive thing he has done. Why am I chasing after some random girl? He thought to himself, shaking his head but the moment he saw her sitting perched against the building wall, he had found the answer to his question. Even when as she sat as a broken mess, there was something about her that captivated him, that made him want to know who she was as if he was a mystery that he just had to solve.
"Hey, are you okay?" Saif asked as he towered over Anaya who responded to his question with a quizzical glare. "I saw what happened in the cafe..."
"So?" Anaya questioned, surprised at how weak her voice sounded.
"I just wanted to know if you were okay." He smiled.
"Why?" Anaya glared at him, wiping her tears as a burst of anger began consuming her.
"I was trying to be nice." Saif replied, tilting his head and wondering how someone who looked so beautiful could be so rude.
"I dont NEED someone to try to rescue me." Anaya snorted, standing up and facing Saif.
"I WAS TRYING TO BE NICE" Saif screamed out feeling insulted.
"I dont need you to be nice to me!" Anaya jumped up to face him, her anger oozing out of her and clearly evident in her tone. "I dont NEED anything from anyone. I dont NEED some random guy trying to talk to me JUST to find out what my story is."
"Dont flatter yourself sweetheart, there is nothing special about you" Saif spat as he inched his face towards her.
"Go to hell." Anaya smirked and began walking away.
"NO WONDER NO ONE LIKE YOU" Saif yelled behind her, seething with anger over his hurt ego.
"Excuse me?" Anaya turned around, ready to fight.
"No wonder they did that to you, you are filled with attitude!"
"Wow. Judging someone based on the actions of others. Wow, narrow minded jerk and a desperate loser. Thats a rare combination. Congrats." Anaya snorted, walking back towards him bent on tearing him apart.
"Actions of others? I FOLLOWED YOU HERE BECAUSE I FELT SORRY FOR YOU! If I was judging you by the actions of others, I wouldnt have come here trying to see if you are okay! I am judging you by your pathetic behaviour!"
"OH IM PATHETIC?"
"YES! SOMEONE TRIED TO HELP YOU AND ALL YOU DID WAS SHOOT HIM DOWN!" Saif screamed at her and for the first time noticed her hazel, green eyes as they shone in the sunlight.
"You felt sorry for me." Anaya said, finally cooling down. "I dont need someone to try to rescue me" Her voice filled with hurt instead of anger now.
"Look, it never hurts to have a friend. I know that. I thought you needed a friend. Thats all." Saif said, lowering his voice.
Anaya stood there staring up at him, he looked even more beautiful to her than previously in the classroom but how could she trust him? How could she trust anyone again? Everyone she had trusted had somehow disappointed and broken her.
"Hey?" Saif said as Anaya stood before him in a trance.
"Oh..Uh..Sorry. Uhm...No. Im sorry about getting into this whole thing but I dont need a friend. I dont want a friend."
"Why not?"
"Im not going to give all my secrets away to a random stranger!" Anaya protested.
"Why not?" Saif asked again, walking over to sit on a nearby bench.
"Be..cause." Stammered Anaya, folding her hands and staring at him.
"You cant trust me?" Saif asked arching his eyebrows.
"We just met 10 ten minutes ago" She argued.
"So?"
"You want me to tell some random person everything about me?"
"Why not?"
"STOP saying 'Why not'" Anaya screamed. "Its very annoying."
"Why not?" Saif smiled, suppressing his laugh.
"Ugh" Anaya smiled, rolling her eyes,
"Sometimes, a stranger can offer more than a friend ever could,"
"I dont know..."
"Why dont we go to the Coffee Planet? Get away from here and we could talk about everything then you never have to see my face again."
"You want me to go to a Cafe with a random guy?"
"I could ask my step mom to drop us off. Would you feel safer then?"
"No!" Anaya laughed.
"Shes actually going to be here in a while. Come on. Im offering you free coffee, a free ride, my step mother as supervision and you will never have to see my face again."
"I cant!"
"Take a chance." Saif smiled, getting up and walking over to her.
Anaya stared at him, everything she had done over the summer had been calculated and thought over. She had already been hurt enough for a life time, what more damage could this beautiful guy do, she thought.
"Alright. Lets go." Anaya agreed.
"Great. I think my step mother is at the gate. Come on."
"I dont know if I can handle walking with you all the way there" Anaya joked.
"Oh please. You love the idea of taking this risk." Saif smirked looking over at Anaya as they walked towards the gate.
"Why do you keep calling her 'Step mom'? Isnt that a little too formal?" She inquired
"I.." Saif sighed. "I cant imagine calling her anything else."
"How come?"
Saif stared at Anaya thinking about what he should say and then decided not to say anything at all. "Shes here. That green Cultus. Come on." Saif led her towards the drivers window of the car.
"Hey. Maria" Saif said to the woman sitting in the drivers seat. "Can you take my friend and I to Coffee Planet?"
"Im not your driver" Maria snorted at Saif.
"Please" Saif said.
"What friend?" Maria asked, irritably.
"This is Anaya" Saif smiled, asking Anaya to come stand next to him so that Maria and Anaya could finally see each other.
"Mom?" Anaya gasped, staring at Maria.
