In Between The Raindrops - Chapter 4
Pushing Saif aside, Anaya channeled all her strength in to her feet and ran, ran as fast and as far as she could. Despite her throbbing head, her clouded vision and her aching heart, she didnt stop until her feet gave out and she was several miles away from the University gate. In a matter of seconds, she felt the weight of all questions pushing through her head, questions she did not want to have.
Shes his step mother?
How could she do that to us?
She knew dad died and she didnt care..
What will I tell Abdullah?
"ANAYA!" A scream broke through her thoughts. "Damn, you run fast!" She turned around to see Saif just a few steps back.
"Stay away from me." Anaya shouted, her tears breaking through.
"Hey, hey! Come on. I just wanna know if youre okay." Saif replied softly, putting his hands up.
"Im fine." Anaya whispered, turning back around and walking away.
"Where are you going?" Saif inquired, catching up to her.
"Jumping off a bridge seems like a good idea right now." Anaya sighed.
"Or coffee?" Saif smiled and for the first time, Anaya noticed his pearly white teeth glistening in the bright sun light.
"The last time you asked me for coffee, I found out my mother was your new step mother. So...No." Anaya rolled her eyes.
"Hey, coffee is coffee and after the day you've had...You really could use some." Saif stated with a grin.
"Stop grinning and fine. Coffee. What else could go wrong?" Anaya sighed.
"Thats the spirit!" Saif exclaimed leading the way.
They walked to the Coffee Planet in silence and the closer they got, the more nervous Anaya became. She soon noticed there were people from the University hanging all around and seeing her with Saif would just add fuel to her burning social status.
"Lets not go there." Anaya finally decided.
"What? Why not?" A confused Saif asked.
"Because. if people see us then its just going to make things worse. They hate my guts and everyone believes I dont deserve any friends anymore so...You are probably better off not being seen with me."
"I dont care what other people think." Saif declared.
"Im not worth the rumors or dirty glanes." Anaya fought back.
"BUT BABY I'D CATCH A GRENADE FOR YAAAA" Saif began singing in the middle of the street.
"Oh My God!" Anaya laughed. "You are insane!"
"You either drink coffee with me or I continue singing" Saif smiled.
"Fine. Lets go in." Anaya agreed with a hesitant smile.
